Cosby spent his childhood in Philadelphia, where he studied until tenth grade, after then joined the Navy and completed high school through a correspondence course. He later received a track and field scholarship to Philadelphia’s Temple University in 1961. When he started bartending at a Philadelphia club to support himself, he identified his natural talents to make others laugh.
